Situation

Our client is a global top business and IT consulting companyThe SCM consulting team consists of 15 senior consultants including pre-sales and delivery consultants. The consulting team is a very important sector of the organisation. The candidate will have to take over a large project for one of their key account holders, which is a large Chinese company.The candidate needs to have strong personal characteristics and a high level of skills and knowledge. The role requires frequent travel to clients in Shenzhen and reports to a foreign CEO therefore the need for sophisticated communication in both Mandarin and English was required.

Task

SCM consulted Geeker with a request to fill the permanent position of Management Consulting Manager. The position was to be filled in either Beijing or Shanghai, China. The role had strict requirements that needed to be met before the candidate’s proceeded past the initial stage. The requirements included:

  • A Bachelor's degree of above with an MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years SCM Management Consulting background
  • Supply chain experience
  • Experience in organisational design/ MCRS
  • Strong operational experience, in-end-to-end-supply chain
  • Manufacturing experience, preferred in the chemical industry
  • Ability to work with various teams across the globe
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation capability
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin

Action

A number of candidates who matched the requirements were collected from external sourcesand pre-screen before they were sent to the client for review. As the role requires someone with strong communication skills and knowledge the candidates gathered needed to be put through multiple interviews and reference checks.

Result

The final candidate went through 4 rounds of interviews and accepted a package of 800K per annum and was given a higher title of Director rather than Senior Manager. The candidate was Taiwanese and held an MBA. He had previously worked for IBM for 10 years, with 5 years' on a project with Mainland SCM, and he also owned his own business focusing on SCM solutions. SCM were delighted with the candidate and the level of suitability for the position.
